Orthotics
What are Orthotics?
A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position.
Custom orthotics are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. They are individually fabricated over a 3 dimensional model of your foot.
Do I need to buy new shoes?
No, Orthotics look like insoles, but that is where the similarities end.
Most often custom orthotics will fit comfortably into all of your shoes.
How do Orthotics work?
Custom orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes. They reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The polyurethane body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle.
ORTHOTIC THERAPY
Orthotic therapy utilizes orthotic devices such as custom-made shoes, inserts or braces to correct the irregular walking pattern or gait that cause foot or ankle issues. Consisting of rigid, soft or semi-rigid materials, orthotic devices are composed of materials from carbon fiber and plaster casts for support to foam and gels for cushioning. Rigid orthotics are designed to control the primary movements associated with walking. Soft orthotics are used as a cushion to absorb shock, increase balance and to take pressure off sore spots. Semi-rigid orthotics are usually composed of layers of soft material and help mitigate pain or provide balance for walking or participating in sports.
